Mahalo for a successful 2023 Beach Clean Up!

Friends of Kewalos extends a BIG MAHALO to all of you who had a part in the 16th Annual Kewalo Basin Park Clean-up and fundraiser on Saturday, June 24, 2023. We had a terrific turnout again, all working hard to “give back” to our beloved park. It is so good to see how many people care about this magical place.
In addition to the general clean up, we cleaned and disinfected the restrooms and power washed the showers. All to the sounds of the Homegrown Kewalo Band and the free coffee from the Makanai Bentos and Coffee Truck. The park looked fantastic when we were done.
After the clean-up, Lester Maximo took our group photo with over 200 hundred trash bags lined up in the foreground. Then we moved the bags curbside and the bags were picked up by the City parks crew. This was a perfect example how people working together can accomplish great things.
We also had a very Special guest, Mike Morita and his wife came down and mingled among the crowd. Friends presented him with a nice photo of him surfing and we all signed the back. He was very grateful for the Kewalo Ohana and all the support he got from us. His strength is an inspiration to all of us.
We celebrated the day with a special hula by Kiele, Aunty Dy's granddaughter and lunch, shoyu chicken or Hamburger steak with gravy. Was ono! We handed out great door prize giveaways from our generous donors. We pretty much sold out on our fundraising 2023 shirts, visors, and pop sockets! Mahalo for all your support!
We ended the day by picking the winner of the Big Q: Why is it important to keep the residential ban in Kaka'ako Makai? Winner was 8 year old, Moana. Her answer is: There are too many buildings. you can't even count how many. Keep the land for the kids!
